Cluster planning was at the heart of this 230 unit housing estate in Langata, Nairobi. By creating clusters of 20 to 24 units the estate becomes more manageable to build and run. The clusters lend themselves to better social cohesion and linkages between neighbours creating a vibrant community. The estate is an essay on architecture’s role in creating large housing estates with better social environments.
