OUR WORKFLOW

Our workflow is organic, like a flowing river, meandering across ideas, challenges and uncertainties but ultimately leading to a final destination, the built form.

Each project deserves its story to be told. A story based on aspirations, context, challenges and the effort made to deliver a promise.

Projects start as ideas of intent, develop into conceptual ideas that test the intents, are then further developed to a viable, buildable design that meets a client’s aspirations, by laws and budgets.

A building is a physical statement of an intention to house, shelter and protect.Its both private and public at once. A new physical object in the environment that affects everything, everyone, in it and around it.

Our design process looks at all aspects of the build. From what purpose it will serve, whose aspirations it will fulfill from how it will be put together to how it blends in its context to how the climate will affect it to how it will affect the climate, to what resources it will consume to what political statement it makes to what its says about the times we live in and so on.

With so many things to consider, and all these ideas and opinions bristling in our heads when we put pencil to paper, the first thoughts and ideas are the most critical. These ideas are the basis of the conceptual design, the most important stage in the design process. Here is where all the big ideas are put forward and tested, the dots joined, the desires fulfilled, the story created. All this done to start the creation of a physical entity that is beyond just a building.

Then we carry forward the concepts to see how its going to be put together with a team of like minded professionals who throw more challenges at us. How will it stand? What will it cost? Is that the most viable option? These questions are answered in the the back and forth of a dynamic debate till a product is envisioned that ticks the boxes that need to be ticked off.

The proposal is then put forward to the local authorities for their endorsement, a process that can be engaging when the vision tests the building bylaws that represent the known safe.

The ultimate challenge lies with transferring the idea into physical reality. This is the technical realm where the designs are refined and detailed so that builders and fabricators of similar bent can understand the vision and recreate it. The details, the technical drawings, the specifications, the explanations, the experimentation, the alternatives, the value propositions, these happen here.

Finally the vision moves to the site, an exhilarating time where the birth of the physical entity begins. The sight and smells of freshly broken ground when excavations begin, the clatter of machinery when concrete is poured, the checking and rechecking of measurements so that nothing is left to chance, seeing the building slowly rise up, the skeleton frame that holds the promise of things to come, the finer materials filling up the frame to a final creation that is a realization of a promise.

This in a nutshell is our organic workflow- an engagement, a conversation, a promise of a dream, a path towards the dream and realization of that dream.
